SINOPSE

The North American premiere at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival was, despite some small problems (see next paragraph Computer Requirements) really great as thousands could experience the death march route which I walked in January 2005, exactly 60 years later. Personally I spoke three persons whose relative had marched this route and I am sure that at least a tenfold cold tell me comparable personal stories about the Death march.

COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS

In reply to some small computer problems 'A Victim's Perspective' will be issued now on a PC and MAC compatible hard disk with additional the following freeware software MV2 Player for PC and VLC Mediaplayer for MAC to play automatically the 6 different parts of  'A Victim's Perspective' after eachother.

FREE

Some of you know that I originally made "A Victim's Perspective" as study object for the freedom ballet FREE (www.vrijheidsballet.com). Which should have its premiere at 15 August 2005 when all citizens in the world celebrate the official end of World War II as the Japanese Emperor capitulat. Unfortunately I can't realize FREE at the moment due to a lack of funding.

Part II WAR

Short introduction

WAR opens with the 'Leningrad Symphony' of D. Shostakovich. Instead of the mirror black and white photos about World War II are beamed on the wall. We see four dancers in black uniforms (Nazi's) and after a few minutes four new dancers in green uniforms (Allies) enter the the stage.

All Modern dancers carry the same mask. They represent anonymous soldiers who eventually all die. Like in each war there are no winners. When a dancer dies, a beam of light with a hook in it comes down from heaven. The dying dancer hangs his mask and uniform on the hook, spreads his forearms like a cross and gets raised upon his knees. Whereupon the soul (uniform and mask) leave the body. The last two dancers are well-matched and after an exhausting life-and-death duet they kill each other. Finally, the eight killed dancers form a military cemetery.

"A Victim's Perspective" does not create beauty, but instead of that it incites discovery, stimulates reflection, and generates self-knowledge. Which will eventually increase international understanding, exchange, and cooperation between governments, companies and people, in order to avoid war in the future? The 55 millions victims of the Second World War, the survivors and the generations after them deserve this.
